We don't want you here anymore!

I've moved over to WordPress- it's not very exciting right now, but in the future I'll be posting EVERYTHING (that's right, everything) on my WordPress blog... unless I suddenly decide I miss Blogspot. So from now on, be sure to check http://www.emilyharrod.wordpress.com for the same ol' posts you've always seen on here :)

Later, gators! :)

The Break in Spring

>> Friday, March 11, 2011

All I've eaten today is Captain Crunch, colby cheese, and Doritos.
I haven't washed my face or brushed my teeth or changed out of the hoodie & PJ pants I slept in, and it's already 3:00. (sorry if that's a gross visual, but it's really not that bad...?)
I am working on a mid-term due next week, but it's frequently interrupted by Facebook and blog-reading or brain freezes (read: look outside at the beautiful weather and ponder life for 20 minutes at a time).
I don't feel one bit of remorse, because this time next week I'll be right back in the swing of things- hooray for Spring Break!

The Treasures Store for Christ

>> Tuesday, March 8, 2011

What must followers of Christ give to their Maker? Everything. I don't think I fully comprehend what it means to give up everything for His sake, but I'm learning. God wants to be the driving force behind every possession, event, relationship, word, action, and plan. We fail to see His divine purpose for us when we cling too tightly to what we feel we deserve or are entitled to- and I think that our view of "sacrifice" is skewed to the point where it's difficult for us to truly sacrifice, even if we try!
Abraham sacrificed Isaac, his only son, simply because God told him to. Abraham loved Isaac dearly; perhaps he loved Isaac more than anything else in the world.
Ruth sacrificed the option of going back to her home country- where promise of marriage, family, and prosperity await- in order to stay faithful to Naomi.
Daniel sacrificed his life and security (though only for a time) in order to spend time in prayer with the Lord.
Paul put himself into dangerous situations everyday- imprisoned and tortured, even- in order that others may know the truth of the Gospel.

"And shouldst Thou ask me to resign what most I prize- it ne'er was mine, I only give Thee what is Thine- Thy will be done." -The Little Flock Hymnal

Sacrifice and love for God is much more costly than we crack it up to be- and I feel that we've lost touch with the great cost of following Christ. I don't take it with enough seriousness; I often give some of my money and time to good things in hopes that it will please the Lord enough to keep receiving His love. What does it mean to "pour at His feet the treasures store" of earthly things, which abound all around me? What does the Lord require of me?

Take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days, let them flow in endless praise.
Take my hands and let the move at the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee.
Take my voice and let me sing always, only for my King!
Take my lips and let them be filled with messages from Thee.
Take my silver and my gold; not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use every power as Thou shalt choose.
Take my will and make it Thine; it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own; it shall be Thy royal throne.
Take my love, my Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasures store.
Take myself and I will be ever, only, all for Thee.

A less poetic "Great is Thy Faithfulness"

>> Wednesday, March 2, 2011

I love hymns. The old language often makes us forget how relevant they are to our lives, but it is rich with Gospel-centered content and uplifting praise. The Psalms are rich with hymns, and Ephesians even commands us to speak with spiritual hymns! How cool is that?
"Great is Thy Faithfulness" is one of my favorites, but it has had a much greater impact on me lately. When we are faithless, He still remains faithful. Though our sins are as scarlet, He washes us white as snow... every time. I am so thankful for that! Here is my version of "Great is Thy Faithfulness" in a less poetic yet understandable way of words, sounding much like my prayers:

Father God, Your faithfulness is so great!
There is not even a hint of abandonment with You.
You never change, and Your compassions never fail.
You have always been, and You always will be faithful!

Your faithfulness is so great! I see it more and in new ways every day.
Your hand has provided everything I need- Your faithfulness to me is so wonderful and great.

What can tell of Your faithfulness?
Summer, winter, springtime, fall, the sun, moon, and stars- they join in with the rest of creation witnessing and declaring of Your great faithfulness, mercy, and love!

You have given me complete pardon for my sin and enduring peace.
You've given me Your presence- You bring me joy and guide me.
You've given me strength for today and a bright hope for tomorrow!
You've given these blessings to me- and ten thousand more!

Great is Your faithfulness, Lord, to me!
